Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic
An EU funding programme supporting cooperation between remote and sparely populated communities in the northernmost part of Europe on matters of shared interest. Together we turn ideas into sustainable solutions to improve the quality of life of people living in the NPA.
Our History
For more than 20 years, the Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme has provided support for regions to work together with a focus on promoting sustainable development in remote and sparsely populated communities in Northern Europe and the Arctic. The programme developed reflecting the evolving needs of the participating regions. This allowed it to play a pivotal role in encouraging innovation, knowledge exchange, and the creation of transnational networks.

From 2007 to 2013, the NPP co-funded 47 projects, promoting innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable development in remote areas. Projects focused on developing joint resources and unlocking common potentials, such as the development and innovation potential in the creative industries, aquaculture industries, nature and cultural tourism, renewable energies or in the use of ICT in the health or public sector.

Interreg IIIB Northern Periphery 2000-2006
The objectives of this programme focused on compensating for the disadvantages of insularity, peripherality, long internal distances and sparse population. Priorities addressing ICT and transport were added to sustainable development and community development. In total, 47 projects and 366 partners were sponsored in this period.
